Building History
The Budd Building was constructed in 1894 and was the private residence of the 19th Governor of California, James Budd, elected in 1895. Later, Mrs. Lucinda Budd used the building as a private boarding house. The building was called the Berkeley Apartments from 1916 to 1920 and then became the Budd Apartments. The two ground floor spaces were occupied by C.H. Widdows and H.G. Bissel, civil engineers , and W.C. Mann, a plumber from 1930 through 1950.
